Racial Trauma Support Group
In which ways are you triggered by recent events in the media? How has racial trauma emotionally impacted your ability to function?Believe it or not, sometimes when we are exposed to too much stimuli from the media or community, our emotional responses and relational dynamics shift. Often times as people of color, we internalize these emotions as a means of ‘getting by’ or ‘being strong’. While at one point in history this method preserved the endurance of our ancestors, we now have a means of healing from the scars of racial trauma. We are passionate about seeing us transition, take care of ourselves, and process our emotions in an effective manner. Please join us and others, as we create this safe space together!

Controlling Sexual Behavior
Controlling sexual behaviors program is designed to address inappropriate sexual behaviors. Sexual behavior is caused by complex interactions of psychological, sociological, economic and biological forces that encourage individuals to rebel against societal norms. Healing Arts has identified over the past three years that individuals exhibit inappropriate and deviant behaviors in most cases as a mode for coping with past traumas (i.e. rape, molestation, exposure to porn, etc.).
The 20-week controlling sexual behavior program teaches the development of individual self-awareness, empathy for others, coping skills, self-control, problem-solving skills, healthy relationships, anger management techniques, effective communication, active listening, and how to appropriately connect with others. The controlling sexual behavior program utilizes curriculum from the evidence-based practice Thinking for a Change Model (T4C). T4C stresses interpersonal communication skills development and confronts thought patterns that can lead to problematic behaviors.
The controlling sexual behavior curriculum uses as its core, a problem-solving program embellished by both cognitive restructuring and social skills interventions. While each of the concepts are presented systemically, the participant learns that cognitive restructuring does require the development of cognitive skills and methods, as does cognitive skills require an objective, systematic approach to identifying thinking, beliefs, attitudes, and values. The controlling sexual behavior groups are divided into four age groups:
- Children ages 4-8
- Children ages 9-14
- Adolescents ages 15-18
